Flags half-staff as mark of respect for
Virginia Tech victims
(UTULEI) – Governor Togiola Tulafono today announced all flags in the Territory are to be flown at half-mast as ordered through Executive Proclamation signed by President George W. Bush on April 17, 2007 to honor the victims of the tragedy at Virgina Tech.
In a General Memorandum, Governor Togiola ordered all flags in American Samoa to be flown at half-mast ending at sunset on Sunday, April 22, 2007. The lowering of the flags is ordered as a mark of respect to honor the memory of the victims of the acts of violence that took place on Monday, April 16, 2007.
“American Samoa joins the U.S. and the territories in expressing our sadness over the loss of lives in the Virginia Tech tragedy as a result of senseless violence,” said Governor Togiola. “I urge everyone in the Territory to pray for the souls of the victims as well as for their loved ones, from whom they were taken, on that fateful day. May the Good Lord bring peace and comfort to the survivors and to our nation and Territory in the wake of this terrible loss.”
