 Gov. Togiola announces plan to launch American Samoa Quarter in late July
(UTULEI) – Governor Togiola Tulafono today announced that he has been informed by officials of the Department of Treasury and US Mint that they will travel to the Territory in late July to help launch the American Samoa Quarter.
“This is good news and good news calls for a good celebration, and a good celebration does not have to be big,” said Governor Togiola. “I am very happy to have been contacted by the US Mint to begin preparations to launch our twenty-five cent coin at the end of July. It’s a good feeling because it was a group effort, where we accepted submissions for the artwork, and now we will plan an appropriate celebration for the American Samoa Quarter.”
Governor Togiola said the Territorial Quarter will go into circulation on July 26, 2009, the day it is released by the Federal Reserve Bank, and the US Mint will have a limited number of coins for the children.
“We will meet soon with the committee on a program to launch our quarter,” said Governor Togiola. “The launch of our 25 cent coin readily makes American Samoa available to the American family in the palm of their hands.”
