Acting director of the Office of Property Management Uiagalelei Iona’s resignation has been accepted by Governor Togiola Tulafono, who has since appointed Lemanu Peleti Palepoi Mauga to take over the position.
No reason was given for the resignation. On Aug. 29, Uiagalelei pled guilty to one count of witness tampering at the Honolulu federal court. He will be sentenced on Jan. 6, 2008.
In his resignation letter Uiagalelei wrote, “I am writing to submit my resignation as Acting Director of the Office of Property Management to be effective immediately. I have always appreciated your guidance and the quality of your assistance. I wish to thank you very much for my appointment and it is my hope that I have fulfilled my part as a servant.”

By virtue of this communication, I herewith accept your tendered resignation. I thank you for the several years of service that you have provided to the American Samoa Government, and I wish you every success in all of your future endeavors. I wish you the very best.”
