CJ Michael Kruse selected as secretary of the
Pacific Judicial Council
The Marianas Variety newspaper has reported that Chief Justice of the High Court of American Samoa F. Michael Kruse has been selected to serve as secretary of the Pacific Judicial Council, a group which is comprised of justices and judges from throughout the Pacific region.
The Pacific Judicial Council gives island judiciaries the opportunity to explore emerging issues in a variety of legal areas that include criminal law, ethics and technology, and constitutional law.
Kruse’s selection was announced on Sunday during the Council’s annual meeting held in Guam.
Others who were elected include Chief justice Miguel Demapan of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) who will serve as President, assisted by Chief Justice of the Chuuk Supreme Court Camillo Noket who is the new vice president.
Chief Judge of the U.S District Court of Guam Frances Tydingco-Gatewood is the treasurer while F. Philip Carbullido, Chief Justice of the Guam Supreme Court, will chair the education committee.
