Lt. Gov. Ipulasi says Governor Togiola “in good spirit and feeling fine”

(UTULEI) – Lieutenant Governor Ipulasi Aitofele Sunia today issued a statement on Governor Togiola Tulafono’s recovery in Honolulu.

STATEMENT

“On Wednesday, January 23rd, Governor Togiola was released from Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu.

While recuperating at his hotel room on Thursday, January 24th, the Governor experienced discomfort brought on by an unexpected fever.

Due to temperature fluctuation in the fever, the Governor admitted himself that day into Straub Hospital Intensive Care Unit for observation and monitoring of the fever.

At the time, I did not want to alarm the public with an announcement because frequently a fever was manageable through much-needed rest and hydration.

When the fever subsided and his condition improved tremendously after 48 hour observation, he was transferred from ICU last Saturday to recover in a private room at Straub Hospital.

The Governor’s temperature is now stable and he will continue to be monitored by doctors at Straub. The day that the Governor will be discharged will be determined by doctors on a day-to-day basis.

It was great to talk to him this morning and he was in good spirit. He says he is feeling fine after the fever, which he said was unexpected and it caught him by surprise. He sounds great. His voice is strong and he says he looks forward to resting comfortably.

The Governor said he truly appreciates the visits of the servants of God and territorial leaders that have come to visit him at the hospital and pray with him. He continues to feel stronger daily with all of our prayers.

Governor Togiola has asked me to send his sincere thanks to all the people of American Samoa, sons and daughters in the military, and Pacific Island leaders for all the prayers and get well soon best wishes.

I wish to thank you for your continued support and prayers for Governor Togiola, First Lady Mary Ann and family in Honolulu.”
