(UTULEI) – Lieutenant Governor Ipulasi Aitofele Sunia today opened the Temporary Farmer’s Market in Pago Pago at the site of the old Korea House next to Pago Park.
“I wish to express my sincere gratitude for this temporary market for our farmers and for our people. American Samoa’s farmers play an important role in our agricultural economy because they truly make the fruits of their labor available to our local consumer,” said Lieutenant Governor Ipulasi. “This is a wonderful partnership of government and our farmers. This temporary market will continue to provide our people with fresh, quality produce from our farmers while we prepare to build our new market in Fagatogo.”
Lieutenant Governor Ipulasi said today is a very exciting day because the Territory will continue to have a place to sell the fresh produce that American Samoa has to offer.
“It is always a good feeling to create this fresh and healthy environment for our local families to come and purchase fresh local products from our hardworking farmers and it also allows for even our small time growers to try their hand at selling their goods here,” said Lieutenant Governor Ipulasi. “Not only that we are supporting fresh and local products, after you see the bountiful supply of our local products, I am sure you will have a better understanding of what we should eat and that is healthy foods that is available here.”
Lieutenant Governor Ipulasi expressed his thanks to Public Works Director Taeotui Punaofo Tilei, Acting Agriculture Director Peter Gurr, PC Mauga Tasi Asuega, the village council and the village of Pago Pago, and the farmers of American Samoa for making the temporary market a reality.
“I commend you all on a great job of making old Korea House come to life. What was once an eyesore has been transformed into a great place for fresh fruit and vegetables for all of us. We are truly blessed,” said Lieutenant Governor Ipulasi.
