DOH hosts training at Utulei Beach in preparation for Pacific Festival
The Department of Health is hosting a two-day training exercise at the Utulei Beach today and tomorrow, which will feature their newly acquired technological air conditioned tents.
The training centers on setting up the mobile medical tents which will be used to cater to the thousands of people who will be participating in the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts set to be hosted locally from July 20 – August 2.
Members of the public are invited to stop by and take a look at the tents, and get free screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, and other illnesses, in addition to education and counseling.
Department of Health Medical Director Dr. Ivan Tuliau says the training will give medical professionals an opportunity to resolve any issues that need fixing before the actual Festival.
The tents, measuring 18’ x 35’ and 18’ x 25’ were purchased with bio terrorism funds and they will be used for mobile clinics that will be operated jointly by the Department of Health and the LBJ Medical Center. The tents will provide quick and accessible medical services for Festival participants.
The tents are fully air conditioned and have a 10-bed capacity, as well as running water. A representative from the mainland company where the tents were purchased is in the territory and will oversee the training exercises.
Members of the public that spoke to the Tapuitea are impressed with the new tents, saying that their presence during the Festival is necessary in providing convenient medical assistance to people who may need the help.
