DPW relocates to M&O compound in Tafuna
After occupying most of the second floor of the Executive Office Building in Utulei for more than 10 years, the Department of Public Works finally relocated all of its operations to the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) compound in Tafuna (behind the Motor Pool station).
DPW director Taeaotui Punaofo Tilei said the building was renovated by DPW staff members using money leftover from their annual budget.
The relocation was necessary in order to free up space in the EOB for other government departments and agencies needing more space to operate.
The new office was officially opened yesterday during a ceremony attended by Governor Togiola Tulafono, cabinet members, and other senior government officials. First Lady MaryAnn cut the ribbon to officially open the new office and prayers were offered by Rev. Viliamu Leilua of the Aua CCCAS.
Governor Togiola said the new office is a fulfillment of a longtime wish that one day, all of DPW’s divisions will come together under one roof. DPW employs more than 200 staff members in different divisions including Civil Highway, Lands and Survey, Administration and Finance, Architectural and Engineering, Maintenance and Operations, and the Director’s Office, including two separate offices in Ta’u and Ofu, Manu’a.
DPW aims to provide high quality construction engineering, design, construction management, construction, maintenance, renovation, and repair services of ASG infrastructure, equipment, and facilities throughout the territory. Within this framework, DPW work endeavors to employ environmentally sound, culturally sensitive, socially responsible, and cost effective practices in all service areas, programs, and projects.
The entire staff came together to witness the opening of their new office, which featured a scrumptious feast and traditional Samoan sua presentations for the honored guests, all of which were prepared by excited DPW personnel.
