HTC Le’i Sonny Thompson

Following the successful conclusion of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Conference in American Samoa, PICP Chairman and Commissioner of Public Safety, HTC Le’i Sonny Thompson represented the 21-Island Member Country Organization at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference in Chicago from October 26-29, 2019.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed this morning between IACP and the PICP to expand their partnership and capabilities with IACP’s 30,000 law enforcement professionals across the United States and 150 countries.
Commissioner Thompson was joined by Samoa Commissioner and Chairman of the Pacific Trans National Crime Network, Fuiavailiili Egon Keil and Executive Director of the PICP Secretariat Carl McLennan.
The delegation from the Pacific included Police Commissioners from American Samoa, Guam, Samoa, New Zealand, Fiji, and Hawaii-Maui.
President Trump, a strong advocate of Law Enforcement is scheduled to give the IACP keynote address on Monday at 10:00am (CT). Other notable speakers include FBI Director Christopher Wray.
Following the IACP, the 2 Samoa Commissioners and delegation will hold high level meetings at the invitation of the US Air Force Brigadier General Bullard who heads the Air Force Office of Special Investigations on how to better provide technical support and capacity building of police officers in American Samoa and the Pacific Island Countries of the PICP.
Commissioner Thompson leads the delegation with support from his Executive Assistant Puiali’i James John Faumuina.
