May 5, 2017

Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga led a group of government and traditional leaders who traveled to Ofu, Manu’a to witness the commissioning of the American Samoa Power Authority’s Ofu renewable energy project and the completion of the Ofu Executive Office Building.

Activities began with an ava ceremony in Olosega attended by the dignitaries, leaders and residents of Manu’a.  Following the ceremony, the group proceeded to ASPA’s Ofu Solar Panel Microgrid, which combines a photovoltaic array, battery storage and diesel power and now supplies 80 percent of the power needs of the island Ofu and Olosega, Manu’a.  It is anticipated that the system will supply 100 percent of the power demands for the islands by December.

Next was the official opening of the Ofu Executive Office building which is named after Afioga Misaalefua Tausulu Palega.  The new modern building sits adjacent to the Ofu Airport.  The first floor of the building consists of seven ASG offices, lobby and a kitchen and dining area.  The second floor holds the Governor’s offices, other ASG offices and a conference room.

The assembly then advanced to Olosega for a luncheon wrapping up the day’s events.
