AMERICAN SAMOA GOVERNMENT
Christmas Season is here
The holiday spirit is on island with several celebrations occurring of late. Christmas cheer was brought to the residents of Hope House on December 7th when First Lady Cynthia Moliga, accompanied by staff of the Office of the Governor and the Department of Human and Social Services, visited the elderly and disabled patrons to bid them good will. Mrs. Moliga addressed the gathering and relayed a heartfelt holiday message to the patients and staff. Christmas songs were provided by the DHSS Choir to the delight of all present. The day concluded after the First Lady visited with the residents and gifted them with presents to celebrate the season.
The following day Thursday, December 8th the early morning hours bustled with the arrival of Senior Citizens at the Department of Youth and Women’s Building in Pago Pago. The auditorium swiftly filled with hundreds of American Samoa’s aged citizens for the 4th annual TAOA Christmas program. This celebration of our Seniors has been a festive tradition since it was first initiated by Governor Lolo and Lt. Governor Lemanu when they first took office four years ago. Live music and spirited dancing and singing by some of the guests preceded blessings and an address by Honorable Governor Lolo Moliga who welcomed the Senior Citizens with holiday greetings in Samoan.
Gift baskets prepared by respective ASG Departments and Agencies were distributed to all of the Senior Fathers and Mothers in attendance. The Directors and Agency leaders delivered the gifts to honor the Senior Citizens for the holidays.
More events to celebrate the holiday season are planned as Christmas nears, such as at the LBJ Medical Center and the American Samoa Correctional Facility. Manuia le Kerisimasi.
