2016 Annual Christmas Program at Pavilion at Malaeoletalu

The 39th Annual Christmas program coordinated by the American Samoa Arts Council and the Department of Women’s and Youth Affairs commenced on Sunday evening at Malaeoletalu in Fagatogo. Almost 40 choirs/groups from village and church associations around the Territory will perform over the course of the three day annual celebration to entertain and spread holiday cheer live at the Malaeoletalu and over the airwaves on local television station KVZK. The program kicked off on Sunday night, with over 13 choirs participating. The program began with a Blessing by Reverend Elder Kereti Faiai of the Afono EFKAS accompanied by the Afono Choir. Master of Ceremonies for the program is KVZK Director Fagafaga Daniel Langkilde and American Samoa Arts Council Acting Director Paogofie spoke before Honorable Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga was introduced and addressed the gathering as well as the television audience. The Governor spoke about the importance of family in this holiday season.
First Lady Cynthia Moliga set alight the ceremonial first candle on the Christmas tree which kicked off the beginning of the program with a with an a hymn performed by the Afono Choir.
