Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula Attends Commencement Ceremony

for the 30th Police Academy

TAFUNA, American Samoa – In a ceremony marked by pride and promise, Governor Pulaali‘i Nikolao Pula and First Lady Lois Phillips-Pula joined the Department of Public Safety (DPS) in commemorating the commencement of the 30th Police Academy on July 07, 2025. The event was also attended by Senate President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean, Fono members, and government officials.

 

The ceremony held at the Department of Public Works compound in Tafuna, highlighted the beginning of a critical chapter for 72 individuals entering the academy: 60 new recruits and 12 participants representing the Department of Public Safety, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Treasury (Customs), and the Department of Corrections.

Governor Pulaali‘i also noted that the recruitment and training of this new cohort were made possible through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. He praised the strategic use of these federal resources, emphasizing the importance of using ARPA funds effectively before the approaching deadline.

 

The ceremony underscored the continued commitment of the Territory’s leadership to invest in a safer and stronger American Samoa. Congratulations to all attendees of the 30th Police Academy.

In his special remarks, Governor Pulaali‘i extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the recruits and participants. He expressed his deep gratitude for their commitment to serve and protect the people of American Samoa.

 

“Choosing to serve through public safety is no small task, it requires courage, discipline, and sacrifice,” said Governor Pulaali‘i. “Your dedication is a beacon of hope for our community, and I thank each of you for answering the call.”

 

The Governor reaffirmed that public safety remains a top priority for his administration, alongside Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr. “We are doing all we can to support our law enforcement agencies and ensure the safety of our people,” he added.
