The American Samoa Nurses Association Pays Courtesy Visit

to the Governor’s Office

On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the Governor of American Samoa, the Honorable Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula met with representatives of the American Samoa Nurses Association (ASNA) to recognize their recent revival and ongoing contributions to healthcare in the territory.


After several years of inactivity, the ASNA was officially reactivated in November 2023. The association serves as the professional voice for nurses in American Samoa and is dedicated to advocating for safe, quality healthcare throughout the territory.

During the meeting, the Governor expressed strong support for the association’s mission and acknowledged the essential role nurses play in the health and well-being of the community. Governor Pulaali’i acknowledged the inherent challenges the association faces and expressed confidence that this meeting would help pave the way toward effectively addressing them, ensuring the well-being of nurses throughout the territory. He further encouraged the American Samoa Nurses Association to strategically plan its funding and initiatives to strengthen its capacity to provide essential services to both its members and
the public.

The meeting also served as a lead-up to National Nurses Week, which will be observed from May 4–10, 2025. This year, the American Nurses Association (ANA) has chosen “The Power of Nurses” as the official theme, celebrating the strength, compassion, and unwavering commitment of nurses across the nation.

A proclamation recognizing National Nurses Week in American Samoa will be issued in thecoming days. The week will begin with a church service on Sunday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. atCCCAS Faga’alu, bringing together nurses, families, and community members incelebration and gratitude.The Government of American Samoa encourages the public to take this opportunity tohonor the vital work of nurses and support the ongoing efforts of the American SamoaNurses Association.

● Arizona Ve’ave’a, RN - Outpatient Care Director

The presence of these distinguished healthcare professionals not only reflects the strength and unity of American Samoa’s nursing community, but also their shared commitment to advancing healthcare in the territory. Governor Pulaali‘i expressed his deep appreciation for their continued service and leadership, underscoring the vital role nurses play in safeguarding the well-being of the people of American Samoa.
