The Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Office conducted a mandatory two-day EEO Compliance Training for all personnel in director and deputy director positions on May 28-29, 2025. Led by newly certified EEO Investigators Ms. Fa'atigafua Fuatagavi and Mr. Levi Maugalei, the training provided executive leadership with essential guidance on workplace compliance and equal employment principles. The program covered the significance of EEO and reinforced adherence to federal anti-discrimination laws,
including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Equal Pay Act of 1963, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) of 1967, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, and the American Samoa Administrative
Code (ASAC), Title 4, Chapter 11, which outlines the Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action Plan.

Participants were reminded of their responsibilities in fostering a workplace free from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, as well as the legal consequences of non-compliance. The training reinforced employees' rights and the grievance processfo r filing EEO complaints. Additionally, the session addressed key workplace issues, including sexual harassment, gender discrimination, retaliation harassment, hostile work environment, third-party harassment, and disability harassment. Directors and deputy directors were encouraged to implement proactive measures that promote a safe and equitable work environment. The training also highlighted the illegality of retaliation, ensuring protections for employees who report unethical, illegal, or improper behavior.

The Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Office will provide the governor with a list of trained attendees. Individuals who were unable to attend the training session must promptly contact the EEO Office to satisfy this mandatory requirement.

Looking ahead, the EEO Office remains dedicated to ensuring that all American Samoa Government (ASG) employees receive comprehensive training on EEO policies and protections. To facilitate this objective, initial training efforts will begin with larger
agencies, including the Department of Public Health, the Department of Education, the Department of Public Safety, and the Department of Public Works.

Anyone who suspects discrimination is encouraged to contact the EEO Office without delay. The office is located on the second floor of the Lumana'i Building.
