The Governor of American Samoa, the Honorable Pulaali'i Nikolao Pula, officially proclaimed May 18–24, 2025, as National Public Works Week in the Territory of American Samoa. The week-long celebration began with a special church service held on Sunday at the Aua Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa (CCCAS), marking a meaningful start to a week of appreciation and recognition for the vital work of the Department of Public Works (DPW).

The service was attended by esteemed religious leaders, government officials, members of the Fono, and the dedicated men and women of the Public Works Department. In his keynote address, Governor Pulaali'i honored the department’s unwavering commitment to building and maintaining the territory’s infrastructure.

“The Department of Public Works is the backbone of progress in our territory,” stated Governor Pulaali'i. “They ensure our roads are passable, our buildings are safe, and our environment is protected. They are often unseen, but never unimportant.”

Governor Pulaali'i also highlighted this year's national theme: “People, Purpose, and Presence.”

  • People symbolize the committed professionals who serve with integrity and compassion.

  • Purpose represents the mission that drives them to build and sustain the foundation of American Samoa’s future.

  • Presence reflects the quiet but powerful role Public Works plays in ensuring safety, access, and opportunity for all.

The Governor, joined by Lieutenant Governor Pulumataala, emphasized that while much has been accomplished, there remains much to be done. Both leaders reiterated their continued support for the department in fulfilling its mission of service to the island home.

Also delivering remarks during the service was Reverend Viliamu Leilua, who encouraged DPW employees to remain steadfast in their calling. “You are serving your people and your God,” he said, urging them to rely on faith in all circumstances.

Director of Public Works, Punaofo Taeaotui Tilei, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor and Lieutenant Governor for their leadership and support. “Their vision for American Samoa inspires our department to press forward in delivering essential services and infrastructure improvements across the territory,” said Director Tilei.
