Governor Emphasizes Service and Strength of Women at The Nafanua Foundation Luncheon by Pacific Center for Human Security

The Pacific Center for Human Security hosted a distinguished luncheon, gathering community leaders, partners, and advocates to celebrate the strength and nobility of women while fostering dialogue on service, mental health, and cultural preservation.

 

The Honorable Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula delivered his remarks, highlighting the essential role of service in society and the remarkable contributions of women in leadership and community engagement. Expressing his gratitude for the invitation, he conveyed his appreciation on behalf of the government, thanking the organization for providing a platform to acknowledge and honor the dedication of women in shaping communities.

First Lady Lois Phillips-Pula later offered her remarks, passionately underscoring the importance of cultural preservation. She emphasized how various platforms and the unwavering support of committed partners enable women to safeguard traditions and pass them on to future generations. Her remarks echoed the collective effort needed to ensure cultural heritage remains a foundation for empowerment and identity.

 

The program, guided by the Nafanua Foundation Leadership Fellows Program Director, Saolo Betham, featured insights from Katrina Helsham, Communications Manager of the Pacific Center for Human Security, who articulated the mission and vision of the organization. This was followed by remarks from Gwendolyn Tuaitanu, Executive Director of Nafanua Foundation, a key partner in executing workshops and fellowship programs aimed at uplifting the local community. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to local partners for their belief in the mission and the ability of youth to bring awareness to mental health and cultural preservation through outreach initiatives.

The gathering underscores the strength of partnerships and the valuable contributions, in which Ms Saolo Bethem recognized the presence of the organization’s partners whose supportive efforts and contributions drive the success of their mission. Representatives from the Department of Health - Le Leo o Aiga, Territorial Bank of American Samoa, and Tautua Samoa Mental Health Resource Center were in attendance, signifying a stronger partnership with the organization.

 

Attendees enjoyed a luncheon while being treated to a special performance by young fellows of the Nafanua Foundation honoring cultural heritage. In closing, Tapumanaia Galu Satele, Director of Women and Youth Affairs, expressed appreciation on behalf of the Governor. He reiterated the Department of Women and Youth Affairs’ commitment to strengthening families and the values that shape society, reaffirming the government’s dedication to fostering initiatives that empower individuals and preserve traditions.

 

The Pacific Center for Human Security remains steadfast in its mission to empower individuals and families with diverse abilities to live with dignity and freedom. Through culturally responsive support, The Pacific Center for Human Security aims to create inclusive opportunities that enable full participation in all aspects of life, fostering a stronger and connected community.
