Governor Honors our TAOA Senior Citizens on Annual Celebration Day

In a heartfelt address at the The Territorial Administration on Aging Annual Senior Citizens Day celebration, Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula honored the senior citizens of American Samoa, recognizing their invaluable role in shaping families, villages, and communities. The celebration, themed "Flip the Script on Aging, " highlighted the strength and contributions of elders, emphasizing their wisdom as the foundation of our island’s success.

 

“Our families, villages, and communities thrive when we seek the wisdom and guidance of our elders,” said Governor Pulaali’i. “Their sacrifices, leadership, and steadfast dedication have strengthened the very fabric of our society. Today, we honor their achievements and thank them for the many ways they continue to shape our future.”

The celebration featured a meaningful program dedicated to honoring the senior community. Rev. Aituimalae Faavae of Congregational Church of Jesus in Samoa of Naumati, delivered a heartfelt spiritual message, reinforcing the profound cultural and moral values imparted by older generations and their enduring influence on society. The ceremony also included a special recognition segment, where three distinguished senior citizens were honored for their lifelong contributions, celebrating their dedication, wisdom, and lasting impact on the community.

● The Oldest Senior Citizen Award was presented to Pouiva Reid at 100 years old.

● Community Service Award was awarded to Poialii Fiasili Haleck

● The Oldest Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) Employee Award

    was awarded to Palauli Alopopo with 5 years of service.

Congresswoman, President of Lion’s Club and President of Notary Club had the honor of presenting these awards, personally thanking each recipient for their dedication and impact on society.

 

Attendees and guests were treated to a luncheon and performances by the CCJS Youth through music, dance, and cultural expressions, the event fostered intergenerational connections while honoring the wisdom and enduring legacy of the elders.

 

The Governor reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ensuring senior citizens receive continued support, respect, and recognition for their role in keeping the country united.
