Governor Pulaali'i Nikolao Pula Honors Student Athletes at
DOE Athletics Division Sports Banquet

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa - The American Samoa Department of Education’s Athletics Division hosted a celebratory banquet in honor of student athletes at the Lee Auditorium on May 15th. The event recognized the outstanding achievements of young athletes who continue to excel in their respective sports while prioritizing their education.

In his remarks, the Honorable Governor Pulaali'i Nikolao Pula expressed heartfelt gratitude to the student athletes for utilizing their God-given talents not only for personal success but, more importantly, to support their families. The Governor emphasized the importance of balancing academics and athletics, reminding students that the title "student-athlete" signifies that education must always come first.
"I encourage you all to stay focused, to excel in your studies, and then pursue your passion in sports," said Governor Pulaali'i. "Your hard work and dedication not only shape your future but also contribute to a stronger and brighter American Samoa."

Department of Education Director, Maefau Dr. Mary Lauagaia Taufete'e, also addressed the attendees, expressing her deep appreciation for the athletes, coaches, management, and staff who have worked tirelessly to create opportunities for the territory’s youth. She acknowledged the invaluable support of parents and families who guide, encourage, and accompany their children to practices and events.



The banquet also highlighted success stories of former student-athletes who have advanced through American Samoa’s athletic programs and the Junior Prep Sports pathway, earning opportunities on the mainland. Scholarships were awarded to deserving student-athletes, recognizing their dedication and hard work.
Congratulations were extended to all student athletes for their accomplishments. Governor Pulaali'i concluded with a message of optimism, noting that these achievements are just the beginning of a "bigger, brighter future for American Samoa."
