Resignation of Chief of Staff, High Chief Taito Ali’itasi Afuola-Mauga
This morning, Governor Pula and Lieutenant Governor Pulu reluctantly accepted the resignation of Chief of Staff, High Chief Taito Ali’itasi Afuola-Mauga.
“On behalf of Lieutenant Governor Pulu, myself, and our entire administration, I express my sincere gratitude to High Chief Taito for coming out of retirement to serve the people of American Samoa,” said Governor Pula.
High Chief Taito was instrumental in guiding the administration through an unprecedented period of transition. Her leadership, wisdom, and steady presence provided the foundation needed to move forward with confidence and purpose. Governor Pula also highlighted her critical role in organizing the 125th Flag Day celebration.
“Flag Day was a great success, due in no small part to High Chief Taito’s tireless work alongside Lieutenant Governor Pulu and High Chief Faiivae,” said the Governor. “Together, they planned and executed a celebration worthy of our 125th Flag Day—accomplished in less than half the time typically afforded to most administrations.”
While her departure will be deeply felt, the Governor respects her decision to step down on a high note and return to her well-earned retirement and to her beloved family.
“The strength of a true leader is rooted in their commitment to family.”
Chief Taito’s service has left a lasting impact, and the Governor’s Office commits to continuing the work she helped lead under the banner of Hope for Change. We extend our prayers and best wishes to her and her ‘āiga for continued blessings and good health.
We will miss her dearly.
Ia Manuia, Chief!
